Mentoring Works!
WE NEED YOU!
The 4C Coalition Reclaiming Futures Mentor Program is recruiting mentors for a segment of the population that has been and remains ignored.
The 4C Coalition and King County Superior Court Reclaiming Futures need you to help a young person struggling through the juvenile justice court system. The 4C Coalition Mentor Program recruits, trains, and retains mentors for juveniles (14 to 19) transitioning from the juvenile justice system.
There is research that proves mentor programs reduce repeat offenses by our youth. The 4C is mobilizing the community to "reclaim our youth". Youth with a mentor spend fewer days in detention, are more likely to stay in school and report better relationships with their families than their peers. The facts show that children of color are 70% less likely to use drugs.
This incredible change comes about just by paying attention to these youth that have been ignored for so long. We are asking the community to recognize the success we have had and to step up to make a difference in our community.
We can reclaim our youth, our neighborhoods, and our city. One person can make a huge difference. Make a difference as a mentor. Mentors just need to have a desire to work with a youth and this population that is often over-looked. Make a one-year commitment to help a young person. Time commitment averages 2-3 hours a week. Basic requirement is to make contact weekly. Volunteers will learn about the juvenile justice system. These young men and women need people who care.
